Cashing In on Casino Magic!

(But it is the same for every market!)
Most of you know that I have NOT big a big fan of mailing out piles long-form, direct response (Usually Lead Generation) letters as described in most the of the “Marketing Courses”, including the onslaught of the same for magician’s.
SURE I know it WORKS, (proven!) but due to the form of “marketing to the affluent” that I do, it is more of the relational nature. Instead of targeting big groups of buyers in the “magnetic marketing” model, I rather like to target my direct relationships on a highly targeted, very individualized basis.
That is just me…

Please understand me correctly, though I am not a “fan” of the long-form sales letter, “pre-relationship”, I AM definitely SOLD-OUT when it comes to using the principles & proven tools of influence and persuasion in powerful persuasive copy… no matter how long it takes to convey all the features and benefits of the message intended for each targeted reader.
Yet another example from THIS WEEK proves my point:
One of my re-elationships from another casino (who did NOT have hiring power, by the way… just a super nice guy!) moved into the General Manager & CFO position of a another big casino so when it came time to research entertainment and marketing promotions, he remembered the great work I did for the original casino.
* THREE tips there:
= Number One:
I considered him one of many “friends” I have developed even though he was not my direct buyer/boss from the other casino… He was the manager of accounting… he always process my checks over the last 15 years at this “first” casino. Funny story about THAT as well… in just a moment. (that I STILL work at to this very day, by the way! – 3 times this week alone!)
= Number Two:
It really pays to be genuinely NICE to everyone! Understand me correctly, I wasn’t ‘nice to him’ out of some misplaced marketing motive or obligation… he is a genuinely nice guy and we just got along. That is true of MOST of the folks I associate with “throughout” the business I support and who support me…
= Number Three:
Life Time Value! What started out as a one time job nearly 15 years ago is still producing tons of value for all parties involved! This is NOT the first time that as a DIRECT RESULT that several of theses executives have “taken me with them” to their new job environments… it happens A-LOT… mostly due to the two previous tips! (HINT, Hint, NUDGE, Nudge! Look up and re-read!)
I know you may be saying to yourself… “I’m Not That Much Of A ‘People Person’!” Well GET OVER YOURSELF, stop being a self center oaf and LEARN to be a ‘people person’! – …like DUH!
As you know, I could do 25 full courses JUST on this subject alone! It is the ONE skill set, that when applied will produce the MOST money and lifestyle returns for you, your business and your families as well as your buyers outcomes!
=> When you learn to genuinely love and serve others, you will not have to worry about work ever again!
…ok, back to our regularly scheduled share:
Anyway… HE, in his NEW JOB as GM and CFO (and casino) called his old “friend” and promotional entertainment expert, (that would be ME!) to explore some marketing, entertainment and casino promotional outcomes for his NEW Casino… COOL eh’?
We chatted and I tossed out valuable marketing and promotional entertainment ideas that would work for him in his new environment… I sent him a “proposal” based on our conversations and Viola’, as if by magic, he went for the GOLD (The BIG) package!

HERE is that ‘funny story’ about my billing process that he remembered from before: The ONE thing he remembered and mentioned when we were chatting was the fact that my invoices were FUN! It made him smile and even laugh when it came time to cut the checks and pay me! (Too, he knew how much I was making… that helped!)
On my invoices, I do several fun/funny things for that very reason… oh, and it WORKS! One of the things he remembered was I always signed my name with:
“Dean Hankey, Since 1961!
That Was When I was Born… Hehehehe!”
By the time I made it to the new casino to talk with the gaming and marketing departments, they told me that HE told them all about that… funny eh’?
You see, it’s all about the “Re-Elationships”! Make it FUN and add value! Adding a smile to someone’s day IS adding value! Especially if you can do-it while asking for money!

ANYWAY… (again) ..and HERE is the POINT:
After our conversation I sent them “one of those” full, 13 page sales letter type proposals, cram-packed with bold, benefit oriented headlines, powerful, persuasive sub-heads, riveting ‘others focused’ copy, content and promises (all 100% TRUE!) that are in the best interest of his casino, their guests and the business bottom line! (100% Accountable and Trackable By the Way!) all typed out, single space, lots of type, virtually no ‘white-space’ even poorly written according to any English teacher! Oh and YES, it even had a few type-o’s… not on purpose, but they were there none the less!
Bold? Over The Top? Hype-Y? Salesy? Brazen?
For some of those whiners who don’t understand how the real influence and persuasion process as well as the mind and effective marketing works, maybe… they “don’t like it” or they “feel” like it won’t work!
Two letters… BS!
Who cares how you “feel”, it has PROVEN to work more times that it has not! (Over 92% proven in my business and those that are working all they want!)
You’ll remember I started off this discussion by stating boldly that I am NOT a big “fan” of this type of marketing… but IT WORKS, so who cares how I “feel” about it all, right?
I could tell you stories of notes that I have received from “BUYERS” (That’s a Hint!) that tell me they don’t LIKE the long sales letters I purposefully use… but always AFTER they BOUGHT my products! (Can You Say “BIG TIP”!)
…I could go on about that, I won’t here, now.
Anyway, HERE is what my Casino GM/CFO friend said in the letter accepting my services for his new casino: (Copy & Paste directly from his note)

Great material – it always brings a laugh and smile. It is always fun signing your check!
I know this will be a big hit and the start of a great relationship. How about “Thursday Night Live”? We start this now, then we keep the party going with a hypnosis show one week, karaoke another, the match game another, and who the heck knows for others.
As for budget, lets “go for the Gold!” It is an Olympic year.
(EDITED: Money stuff here… none of your business… hehehehe! Let’s just say, we’ll make it through ok. HA!)
Dean, judge what to do based on the crowd each night. After this weekend, we can discuss the program for the following weekends. I want to commit to booking it now, just can decide what to do and hours after this week.
I would also like to book for the Hot August Nights – for Thursday 8/7, Friday 8/8 and Saturday 8/9. Not sure what or what times. Lets say 3 to 5 hours each day. We can decide who, what, when after this week’s performance. Jayne & Herb can help plan that out.
Sally, can email me the contract so I can fill out with Dean next week for the following weeks? Sally will be enjoying a vacation starting this Friday.

WOW! And all this in LESS than a week! (and 13 pages of type writen copy! I bet you’d love to see THAT letter, eh’?)
Who’da thunk it… he LOVED the long, 13 page salesy, hypey, bold, benefit oriented letter, so much so that he tells me he LOVES Signing My Checks! I guess it WORKS eh’?
* Another Re-Elationship LESSON:
Pay particular attention to the TRUST he extends to me in my ability to work the casino and his crowds doing what-ever I think will work at the time… now THAT is a real TRUST Re-Elationship!
Let’s look at the other side of the coin for just a second:
OK, What if I went with my “feelings” and didn’t do what I know and has proven to work on a constant, persistent basis??? ALL of us would have been screwed!
= I wouldn’t have gotten the gig, (and all the others I book too…)
= I wouldn’t have been above to help them with their business bottom line
= and the guests would have been sitting there (or walked out the door, bored to tears!) with the finger in their noses!
=> Oh, and my wife gets all that glorious money we receive as a direct result of helping them get more of what THEY WANT, NEED and DESIRE! Yet again, we get to live life and enjoy helping others in our community in the process! (We give a lot… and LOVE IT!)
…and a “ZERO WIN” scenario if I had done what I “like” versus what WORKS!
Success is NOT about “feelings”! SURE we should be nice and if we care more about others that we do about the ‘paycheck’ then that works itself out anyway, so it’s an ALL WIN Deal! [Nor is it a ‘license’ to be rude, haughty, superior or an egomaniacal rube!]
Just a reminder of what works whether we LIKE IT or NOT as long at it legal, ethical, moral and the like, I say DO WHAT WORKS!
Like I always say:
“The KEY to Success is that Successful People Have Simply Formed the Habit of DOING the things that unSuccessful People Are unWilling To Do… regardless of How We FEEL!” – WE Do It ANYWAY!
