“LOGO… Yes? No? Maybe?”

QUESTION:
How essential or influential is a “LOGO” in our over-all marketing arsenal?

hand holding penSome suggest that a “LOGO” is the magic that makes “Big Success America” the success they are today while others say it has little or no real intrinsic value in the marketing landscape. They say a “LOGO” is worthless… nothing.

What say YOU?

I settle a bit in the middle of the over-all mix of it…
=> Does our “LOGO” produce bottom line, profit bearing results?

NO, not really and certainly directly. NOT all by itself anyway. (Generally speaking that is, and especially in OUR case as independent business owners and NOT the “Biggies” in the corporate perspective of it all…)

I find Marketing is a “holistic process”:
That is…TWO WORDS:

= Holistic
Basically meaning and over-all broad spectrum of details and procedures.

= Process
Not a ‘one-thing’ or a ‘destination’ as it were, but a “process” or journey along the way to getting the result we desire.

BOTH are only “part” of the profit producing process and procedures for making business successful.

…ah the magic of “marketing”.

Now a “LOGO” simply floating ‘out there’ alone will not (or likely cause someone to)  pick-p the phone, send out marketing, knock on doors and book shows for us if it is never applied, used, put out there in this over-all “holistic process” of our “Marketing Mix”. (Regardless of HOW we each choose to market…)

A LOGO is ‘one’ element in an “ID Package” (Brand Continuity, Congruent and Consistency Process) that we can use in our ‘branding’ BUT not the ONLY thing.

Certainly, consistency and congruency of color, look, feel, approach are all equally as important in this over-all holistic process and approach as a LOGO might be, present or not.

=> Does an “EFFECTIVE” LOGO ‘add’ to the Holistic Process in our marketing and success efforts if we apply it well?

I sure could! (IF done correctly!) It can equally be distracting and a menace to our success if it is not good!

I WILL say, as part of the over-all marketing mix and holistic process a LOGO “can” be a very powerful stylized embedded reminder of all the stuff our marketing hopes to achieve all in nice little package all wrapped in a bow. Again, “IF” done correctly!

(By the way… side note: Not all LOGOS are “visual”.  Another session…)

THAT is why all the “BIGGIES” apply the principle of an ‘effective‘ logo. – - Truth be told, when done ‘correctly’ a powerful and effective LOGO can-be rather hypnotic in nature and can easily ‘anchor’ and bring-back all the positive (or negative depending) emotions and experience attached to that particular “LOGO” or “ID” representative of any particular business or marketing campaign outcome! (Hint! Hint!)

It all simple marketing psychology really.

I realize that “No One Answer” is all right or all wrong. I AM very interested in understanding YOUR response and perspective on the subject… so WHAT SAY YOU?
